Utah Elk Hunts with NoTellum Outfitters

It's time to apply for your 2024 Utah Bull Elk tag.  You have until April 25th 2024 to get your application done.  In Northeastern Utah we are lucky to have access to thousands of acre's of Elk habitat.  Elk hunting can be very exciting when hearing the bugle of a mature Bull Elk on a cold fall morning in the Rocky Mountains.  There is nothing like it.  It is an experience you will not forget. NoTellum Outfitters would like to help you with that experience.  

What to Expect

NoTellum Outfitters will provide transportation including trucks, side by sides, horses, and pack mules if needed.  If you have an Elk hunt that needs more Outfitting needs, please give us a call at 435-823-4488.  

Elk Hunting Details

For the Utah Bull Elk hunt you can obtain your Utah Bull Elk tag at Utah DWR.  You must have a valid Utah hunting or combination license.  On May 31st 2023 you will find out your drawing results.  Any limited-entry permits remaining after the big game drawing will be available to buy over the counter July 12th 2023.  All permits are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

General-Season Bull Elk dates

  • Archery:  Aug. 20th to Sept. 21st ( includes North Slope Summit/West Daggett, South Slope Bonanza/Vernal/ Yellowstone)
  • Archery Spike Elk:  Aug. 20th to Sept 9th ( includes Book Cliffs Bitter Creek/South, Book Cliffs Little Creek Roadless)
  • Any Legal weapon (rifle) spike and any bull elk:   Oct. 8th to Oct. 20th (includes North Slope Summit/West Daggett,    South Slope Bonanza/Vernal/Yellowstone, Book Cliffs Bitter creek/South, Book Cliffs Little Creek Roadless)
  • Muzzleloader:  Nov. 2nd to Nov. 10th ( includes North Slope Summit/West Daggett, South Slope Bonanza/Vernal Yellowstone)

Limited-entry Bull Elk dates

  • Archery:  Aug. 20th to Sept. 16th ( includes Book Cliffs Bitter Creek/South, Book Cliffs Little Creek Roadless, North Slope Three Corners, South Slope Diamond Mtn.)
  • Any Legal weapon (rifle) early hunts: Sept. 17th to Sept. 25th ( includes Book Cliffs Bitter Creek/South, Book Cliffs Little Creek Roadless, South Slope Diamond Mtn.)
  • Any Legal weapon (rifle) midseason hunts: Oct. 8th to Oct. 20th ( includes North Slope Three Corners, South Slope  Diamond  Mtn.)
  • Any Legal weapon (rifle) late hunts: Nov, 12th to Nov. 20th ( includes Book Cliffs, Bitter Creek/South)
  • Muzzleloader: Sept. 26th to Oct. 7th ( includes Book Cliffs Bitter Creek/South, Book Cliffs Little Creek Roadless, South Slope Diamond Mtn.)
  • Muzzleloader: Nov. 2nd to Nov. 10th ( includes North Slope Three Corners)

Permit Sales Dates- Any Big game permits remaining will be available for purchase at UTAH DWR

  • General Season archery elk permits:                               July 12, 2023
  • Remaining limited entry big game permits if available:   July 12, 2023
  • General season any bull elk permits:                               July 14, 2023
  • General season spike bull elk permits:                             July 26, 2023

Packing list

What to pack for a fall hunt:                         

- A valid hunting license/safety card                                        
- Waterproof Hiking Boots/Heavy insulation                            
- Wool socks/Moisture-wicking                                                
- Wool long underwear                                                            
- Gaiters                                                                                    
- Pants/Wool or mid-weight                                                     
- Shirts/ Wool or flannel outer shirts                                        
- Heavy Coat                                                                             
- Warm Hat                                                                                                                

Day pack Suggestions for a fall hunt:                               

- High Energy Food                                                                 
- Refillable water bottles                                                          
- Headlamp or flashlight w/extra batteries

- Personal toiletries and medications                                       

Suggestions for Hunts

Dress in layers because you want to avoid sweating and then getting cold.  When packing your day pack keep the weight of it in mind, you could end up hiking many miles in the snow.  Camouflage is okay to wear but necessary.  Orange clothing is needed.
